Cancer ravages and other Non communicable diseases in Today's World

In the bygone days, the common causes of death were wars and political brouhaha and instability.Men and women who lived in time of peace live to full old AGE without the fear of being afflicted by a terminal illness or non-communicable disease like diabetes, hypertension, cancer etc which are also known as silent killer diseases. In the not too distant past CANCER, diabetes, and other few non-communicable diseases were regarded as an affliction of the developed nations and rich people. However, the continuous advancement of mankind technologically has seen man becoming his own source of affliction through it methods of technological approach that has now lead to drastic change in life style and eventual changes and degradation of the Environment which in turn has led to a rise in the incidence of CHRONIC DISEASES which in most cases have no remedy. Today this non-communicable disease has crossed border and is now a problem of everybody. Hypertension also known as High blood pressure which is a precondition for stroke, heart attack, DIABETES and other silent killer conditions is essentially a product of modern life style that involves high profile stress and a complete lack of AEROBIC ACTIVITY or EXERCISES and indiscriminate eating of chemicalised and junk foods. The United Nation secretary general Ban Ki-moon in a report to the 66th General Assembly describe the non communicable disease like cancer as a rising epidemic and warned that out of the 57 million global deaths in 2008, 63 percent or 36 million were due to non-communicable disease which include cancer, diabetes, CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE and CHRONIC RESPIRATORY DISEASE.   These deaths are expected to rise to 52 million in 2030. Man's industrial activities has lead to the emission of poisonous gases and substances into the atmosphere leading to RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS and the destruction of the ozone layers which protects the earth from harmful radiations from the sun. The consequence of this is the increasing cases of skin cancer. Other forms of CANCER exist as a result of consuming chemicalized products called processed foods. Most food and food drinks these days are package in plastic materials which are known to leach cancer causing chemicals like Bisphenol,Styrene and phthalates when heated or put under pressure. Today we live in environment that is charge with a high level of radio frequency radiation without a bulwark against the effects of this radiation which are highly known to cause various types of cancer. Obviously, non-communicable diseases are linked to factors like foods, tobacco, environmental pollution and a lack exercise. The economic cost of these diseases is such that in 2010, an estimated $300 billion was spent to treat CANCER alone while obstructive pulmonary disease which is caused by smoking tobacco cost the world $400 billion a year. Worst still, it is the poorest people in the poorest nations that suffer the most with 80 percent of the disease occurring in low and middle income countries. People are getting fatter, lazier, smoking too much tobacco and eating unhealthy food. The only way we can stem the growth of these non-communicable diseases is to have a change of attitude. We must cultivate the habit of exercising regularly, reduce excessive consumption of alcohol and cut down on the consumption of processed and chemicalized food. Encourage your loved ones to cultivate these habits in order to protect them from the silent killers of today's world
